Next stop on our Virtual Event Tour, Karlswood Stables!
We are very excited to have Olympic medalist Cian O' Connor join us for a lunch time chat, on the business of showjumping and preparing for his third Olympics. We will be looking into what it takes to suceed in the elite sport and the mindset required to get to the top of the game and stay there.
Cian is one of the longest standing members of the Irish Showjumping Team with over 125 senior caps. Competing as a show jumper since the age of 14, he is Ireland’s only Olympic medallist in the sport, having achieved a Bronze Medal in individual show jumping at London 2012 on the horse Blue Loyd.
He was first selected to represent his country at the age of 18, and has gone on to add many medals to his trophy cabinet in the two decades since. These include a Team Gold Medal and an Individual Bronze at the European Show Jumping Championships at Gothenburg in 2017, together with a Team Gold Medal in 2019 at the Barcelona Nations Cup Final, a victory that also secured an Olympic team place for Ireland, the first since 2004.
The nature of Cian’s work means almost constant travelling to international shows, but his reputation has meant that he can also take on coaching work for up-and-coming riders and horses in various countries. So far he has held clinics not only in Ireland but in the USA, the Middle East and China, and several of his pupils have gone on to achieve championship wins and selection for their national teams.
Cian is based in Ireland, and he is currently finishing a major construction project at his farm in Co. Meath that will deliver an iconic show jumping facility as well as a base for the coaching of riders and development of future equine superstars.
Conversation will be followed by Q&A.
